Dr. Rahul V. Deshmukh is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at SouthEast Orthopedic Specialists, bringing two decades of experience and a deep commitment to improving the lives of injured workers through expert, patient-centered care. With triple fellowship training and a specialty focus in Sports Medicine and Joint Replacement, Dr. Deshmukh has built a reputation for excellence in both surgical precision and compassionate, outcomes-driven care.

After earning his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completing the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program, Dr. Deshmukh went on to train extensively in advanced orthopedic techniques. Today, he uses this foundation to help patients not only recover—but regain their mobility, confidence, and quality of life.

When asked what drew him to orthopedics, Dr. Deshmukh shares, “I’ve always been fascinated by the musculoskeletal system and how vital it is to our everyday function. The fact that I can help someone see immediate improvements and get back to their life is incredibly powerful. It’s why I love what I do.”

His passion for medicine began at the dinner table—listening to stories from his parents about the fulfillment that comes from helping others. Though he initially explored interests in engineering and law, that early exposure to service stayed with him. “That sense of purpose, of doing something meaningful for others, is what ultimately brought me to medicine,” he reflects.

In the workers’ compensation world, Dr. Deshmukh’s expertise stands out. His patient-centered approach and commitment to interdisciplinary care help streamline treatment and support a safe, effective return to work. “We work closely with case managers, employers, and insurers to ensure the recovery process is smooth and efficient,” he explains. “It’s all about restoring function and helping people reclaim their lives after injury.”

Known for his calm focus and collaborative spirit, Dr. Deshmukh believes in doing what’s right for each patient—not just what’s expedient. “Every person’s journey is different, and it’s our responsibility to guide them with care, precision, and respect,” he says.

Outside of the OR, Dr. Deshmukh enjoys sharing that he once both flew and jumped out of planes—before graduating high school. It’s that sense of drive, curiosity, and boldness that carries through into the work he does every day.
