With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Richard K. Gaines has become a trusted name in orthopedic surgery for injured workers across the Daytona Beach, Deltona–Ormond Beach metropolitan area. Board-certified and WorkCompReady™ certified, Dr. Gaines brings not only surgical expertise but also a deep understanding of the complexities involved in treating work-related injuries.
Currently practicing at The Orthopedic Clinic, Dr. Gaines specializes in total hip joint replacement using the anterior approach—a minimally invasive technique that promotes quicker recovery and less disruption to surrounding tissue. His practice also includes a strong focus on arthroscopic and reconstructive procedures of the knee and shoulder, as well as trauma care for both upper and lower extremities.
Originally from Daytona Beach, Dr. Gaines’ roots in the community run deep. After earning his undergraduate degree from Davidson College and his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine, he completed his surgical internship and orthopedic residency at Emory University, followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Miami.
Since returning to Volusia County in 1992, Dr. Gaines has not only provided exceptional care to his patients but has also supported the local community by serving as team physician for Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, the Daytona Cubs, and several local high schools. He’s also committed to the next generation of doctors through his role as Clinical Instructor for the Florida State College of Medicine.
