Elizabeth 'Beth' Swonger: Workers' Compensation Claims Manager at CCMSI

ree

For Elizabeth Swonger, what started as an unexpected career path has grown into a passion—and now, a purpose. As a Workers’ Compensation Claim Manager at CCMSI, Elizabeth has been leading a dynamic team of supervisors, adjusters, and claim associates since January 2023. Her mission? To motivate, mentor, and make a difference, every single day.

While she didn’t initially plan on a future in workers’ compensation, once she stepped into the field, she never looked back. “I fell in love with the work,” she says, “and I’ve been in it ever since.” Today, she brings not only experience but empathy to her role—valuing mentorship and celebrating her team’s growth as her favorite part of the job.

Her weeks are fast-paced and full—answering questions from supervisors, supporting adjusters, and partnering with clients to ensure smooth claims processes. At the heart of her work is a strong belief in fairness and balance. “There are always two sides to every story,” she reflects, “and the truth is usually somewhere in the middle.”

Elizabeth has witnessed the industry evolve in powerful ways. From new technologies to a shift in mindset—where more people see workers’ comp as a true career, not just a paycheck—she’s embraced these changes with optimism. And while her proudest professional moment was being promoted to claims manager, her greatest achievement remains her children, whom she describes as “amazing young adults” and her biggest source of inspiration.

Outside of work, Elizabeth lives life with a sense of adventure and appreciation. She’s held a shark in Mexico, starts every day with coffee, and values time spent with her best friend and family. Though she admits she’s always been too nervous to try karaoke, she’s described by those who know her as kind, empathetic, and fiercely resilient. “I never give up,” she says—a mindset that’s carried her through both professional challenges and personal growth.

One of the most important lessons she’s learned came from stepping into her current role: leadership requires trust, clarity, and the courage to keep learning. When she meets someone new, she notices their eye contact—it’s her way of reading sincerity and connection. And when it comes to boundaries, Elizabeth makes it a priority to log off, reset, and protect her time outside of work.

Raised in a small Connecticut town surrounded by horses, chickens, geese—and even the occasional runaway cow—Elizabeth looks back on her childhood with fondness. If stranded on a desert island, she knows exactly what (and who) she’d bring: her kids, good food, and sunscreen.

Looking ahead, she sees a future where the industry is increasingly remote, shaped by new laws and fresh faces as longtime professionals pass the torch to a new generation. And in that future, one thing is certain: leaders like Elizabeth Swonger will continue to guide it with purpose, heart, and integrity.
