Mary Cliver: Manager/Medical Bill Review at FFVA Mutual

ree

In the world of workers’ compensation, few people embody resilience, compassion, and leadership quite like Mary Cliver. In this exclusive Bloom Magazine interview, we had the pleasure of getting to know Mary’s inspiring journey—from her early days in Illinois to her ongoing impact in Florida’s workers’ comp community—and the deep personal values that continue to guide her along the way.

Mary’s path into the industry began during the rise of Managed Care in Illinois, where she worked for an insurance company and quickly developed an eye for detail and a drive to grow. A move to Orlando opened the door to a new opportunity at a Third-Party Administrator (TPA), and from there, her career took off. With each role, Mary committed herself to learning as much as she could—soaking up knowledge from mentors, diving into new projects, and gradually mastering the ins and outs of multiple sectors within insurance and claims management.

But Mary’s story isn’t just about career growth. It’s about how she’s managed to stay grounded and give back in the midst of it all. Finding balance hasn’t always been easy, but she’s learned the importance of carving out time for herself, whether that’s through quiet reflection, meditation, or simply watching a movie she loves. “It’s a daily decision,” she shares, “to take care of myself so I can continue showing up fully for others.”

For those considering a path in workers’ compensation, Mary’s advice is simple but powerful: get involved and never stop learning. “The industry is evolving,” she says. “This is the perfect time to dive in, build relationships, and make a meaningful difference.”

Looking back, the most meaningful moments of Mary’s career haven’t been awards or titles—it’s the people. “Meeting new people, collaborating on ideas, seeing others succeed—that’s what stands out to me,” she reflects. And true to form, she’s found ways to actively uplift others. From mentoring through programs like Transitions to contributing on key committees, Mary is intentional about helping others grow.

She’s especially passionate about fostering an inclusive, empowering work culture. Her love for medical billing and vendor management has become something she loves to share, encouraging others to explore niche areas and take ownership of their strengths. “When you recognize people’s wins—big or small—you create a space where people feel seen, valued, and inspired to do their best.”

Outside of the office, Mary finds her joy in family time—especially at theme parks like Universal and Disney—and in quieter moments watching holiday movies or listening to music. Inspired by her own life experiences, she dreams of one day opening a women’s shelter to offer others the same sense of support and hope that once carried her through difficult times.

Recent events hosted by the Orlando chapter of the workers’ comp community have also left a mark on Mary. “Reconnecting with familiar faces and making new ones always reminds me why I love this field,” she says. “It’s not just about work—it’s about the people and the purpose.”

If she could go back and offer advice to her younger self, Mary would encourage curiosity and courage: “Try different areas of the industry until you find what you love. Learn from the people around you. And once you do—pour into others. This is a special community to be a part of.”

And with that, Mary Cliver continues to lead by example—blending expertise with empathy, and always lifting others as she climbs. Her story is a beautiful reminder that success isn’t just about what you achieve, but how you show up for others along the way.
